Extrait de naissance
Wombat, France
Selected by Philippe Starck for the International Design Year Book 96, the Extrait de naissance lamp marks the beginning of a creative impulse. A free-form figure inflated like a light body, it embodies a vision of design focused on living things and organic forms.
Made of mouth-blown opaline glass and lacquered aluminum, this piece is part of a biodesign approach, where the material seems to undergo a metamorphosis. Each curve evokes growth, the metaphysical evolution of form towards light, which becomes substance—a symbol of life and a metaphor for creation.
A luminous sculpture that questions our connection to matter, to the body, and to the very origin of the creative act.
